The Plan

2021 Roll Across Canada Tour Starting on the West Coast in June 2021, the Roll Across Canada tour will take place over a 4 month period before being completed on the East Coast of Canada. The focus of the tour, with international sea kayak instructor James Manke, is to teach as many people as possible how to roll their kayak. The Roll Across Canada tour will also include traditional paddle strokes and skills. Learning to roll a kayak enables paddlers to gain confidence, while also increasing their safety and skill level while on the water. Drawn in by his unique teaching style, James' students learn progressional techniques that allow them to continue advancing with rolls even after his clinic.

  • 9:00am

    Rolling Theory

    A complete break down of the roll giving you a well rounded understanding before applying in the water.

  • 10:00am

    Kayak Stretching

    Learn a series of both static and active stretches that work best with your kayak roll practice.

  • 10:30am

    Roll Training

    In-water training working on progressional steps to learn and improve your roll.

  • 12:30pm

    Lunch Break

    Take a break! Warm up with some hot lunch as we chat about kayak outfitting and other kayak tips.

  • 1:30pm

    Traditional Skills

    Have some fun learning a few Traditional skills that help improve your balance and flexibilty.

  • 2:30pm

    Paddle Strokes

    Learn traditional paddle techniques to get the most out of your Greenland paddle.

International Kayak Instructor

James Manke

All Things Qajaq founder and international Greenland rolling instructor James Manke has travelled around the world instructing at numerous sea kayak symposiums over the past 8 years. James' mission is to share his passion with as many people as possible to help spread the tradition of Greenland kayaking, which is where kayaking originated. Greenland skills are very valuable to modern day sea kayakers and all skills are transferable to modern day kayaking.

Drawn in by his unique teaching style, James' students learn progressional techniques that allow them to continue advancing with rolls even after his clinics. Many of his students have outstanding success! James has taught countless students over the past 8 years and has been recognised as one of leading kayak rolling instructors around the world. In 2014 James won the individual rolling competition at the National Greenland kayaking championships.

James is also a member of the Hurricane Riders, a group of internationally recognised kayakers who push each other to new limits and challenge themselves in rough water conditions.
